Q&A with Chief Medical Officer Dr Anushka Mehrotra
Find out how DCA is supporting employee health and wellbeing through end-to-end physical and mental pathways.
What major trends are you seeing in how patients want to access and manage their healthcare digitally?
A major trend is the growing demand for accessible, on-demand digital healthcare options, driven largely by the ongoing pressures on the NHS and increasingly long wait times for appointments and treatment. As patients face delays in accessing in-person care, many are turning to digital platforms for quicker, more convenient alternatives - such as virtual consultations, self-service health tools, and remote monitoring - to proactively manage their health and avoid prolonged disruption to their wellbeing.
Why is preventative healthcare so important - and how is DCA helping people stay well, not just get well?
Preventative healthcare helps identify risk factors for diseases and conditions, offering education and lifestyle guidance to prevent the development of acute symptoms, illnesses, or conditions that could lead to chronic and debilitating health issues.
At DCA, we offer preventative ‘health checks’ which involve digital screening around health & wellbeing and remote testing for common health conditions. These provide personalised insights into current health issues and possible risks developing, both for individuals and across the workplace.
How does DCA maintain clinical quality and patient safety in a fully virtual environment?
DCA maintains clinical quality and patient safety in a fully virtual environment through a robust and comprehensive quality assurance process, underpinned by a high standard of clinical documentation. Clinicians adhere to detailed clinical protocols that ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness across every consultation.
Standardised assessment tools are integrated into the consultation process to capture critical information, including red flag screening and safety netting, minimizing the risk of missing key clinical details. In addition, clear protocols and policies are in place to manage emergency situations and remote prescribing effectively, including guidance on appropriate signposting to urgent care or specialist services when needed, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate care.
DCA provides comprehensive support for individuals in physically demanding jobs who are at higher risk of musculoskeletal (MSK) issues through skilled and detailed assessments with experienced physiotherapists. These assessments focus on identifying occupation-associated risk factors that may contribute to MSK strain or injury. Based on this evaluation, physiotherapists offer tailored advice and education on injury prevention strategies specific to the individual’s job role. In addition, bespoke exercise programs are developed to strengthen musculoskeletal structures, enhance tissue resilience, and improve overall robustness - enabling individuals to better cope with the physical demands of their work, significantly reduce the risk of injury and recovery more quickly should they become injured.
What are the most common mental health issues you are seeing through the platform, and how is DCA responding to these?
DCA clinicians frequently see patients with work related stress, mild and moderate depression or anxiety. Mental health practitioners bring their specific expertise in assessing, diagnosing and supporting people by initiating supporting measures early for these mental health issues.
What changes do you think need to happen in healthcare to make prevention and early support a bigger focus?
To make prevention and early support a bigger focus in healthcare, there needs to be a systemic shift toward proactive rather than reactive care. This includes increased investment in preventative services, greater integration of remote screening and testing, digital tools to support early intervention, and improved access to health education and personal empowerment to make meaningful changes and improve health overall.
